Statistics and Reports

Animal Statistics Review

Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center statistics are published for public review. The data highlights monthly and yearly animal statistics. In 2022 our shelter took in 1432 dogs and 3868 cats. We pride ourselves on our accomplishments with animal care and the progressive changes made to save more lives. Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center is proud to have achieved 91.6% overall live release rate in 2022, 94.3% in 2021, 95.72% overall live release rate in 2020, and 92.3% in 2019!  Despite the fact that our intake has increased while adoptions and transfers were historically slow, we have remained committed to saving lives. We have been honored by the Petco Foundation with the Rachael Ray “Save them All” grant for excellence in our no-kill work.

Asilomar Accords Statistics

The Asilomar accords data reporting method is a known industry standard format for reporting animal care data. Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center utilizes the Asilomar Live Release Rate which shows what percentage of animals left the shelter with a live outcome. Live outcomes include adoptions, returned to owners, transferred to rescues, and trap-neutered return.

Shelter Animal Counts

Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center reports monthly data reports to Shelter Animals Count national database. Shelter Animals Count is a new, collaborative initiative formed by a diverse group of stakeholders to create and share a national database of sheltered animal statistics, providing facts, and enabling insights that will save lives. Visit shelteranimalscount.org for more regional and national shelter data.

Industry Formulas

Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center recognizes national dialogue of many industry standard formulas that calculate save rate and live release rate. All formulas have limitations and none are proven to be universally applied to all animal welfare organizations. Click here, to learn more about save rate and live release rates read the publication “What’s your rate?” by The National Federation of Humane Societies.
